Sponsored Thermage Treatment by Solta Medical, performed at IDS Clinic

Now now, what EXACTLY is Thermage? Some background info…

Thermage is a safe, non-invasive procedure that’s clinically proven to help smooth, tighten and contour skin for an overall younger-looking appearance. The treatment delivers natural looking results with little to no downtime – on all skin colors, on and off the face, all in a single procedure. Since there is no surgery involved you can generally return to normal activities immediately following the procedure.

The Thermage device was first cleared by the FDA in 2002 and has been available in physician offices since then. So it’s not a new procedure, been around more than a decade!

The reason why I opted for Thermage is because since about a year back, I noticed the skin at the sides of my face drooping, I believe they’re called jowls. It’s not very apparent in the selfies I post(duh I angled like mad and picked the nice ones?) but in some pics it’s really obvious and I was shocked! Also, the area around my eyes(mainly above) was starting to look droopy too. And my neck area too! My skin just wasn’t as taut as before(SCREW YOU, gravity and aging!!!), and it’s not something losing weight or fillers or Botox can help. It’s just an overall loosening of my skin which made me look tired and older!

Don’t believe me? Check these pics out. The shape of my face was never edited(in fact, I filtered the pics back then to make the jowls less obvious #mydoglife). If you don’t think it’s bad, keep in mind this is the BEGINNING of the aging process and will only deteriorate with time, unless I do something about it.

This was the singular most horrifying wakeup call pic. Please note that this was ANGLED to MINIMIZE that LUMP of aging on my face. And then FILTERED to make the shadows less obvious. This jowl thing was seriously cramping my style.

But but, I’m too young to go for a facelift and that is very scary and invasive to me! Also, I can’t afford the downtime cos of my work and all. So Thermage seemed like the perfect option for me.

Ok this part is a bit dry, read if you really wanna know, if not just skip it till you do!

Thermage works using a handpiece with a smooth, flat tip that delivers Thermage’s unique radio-frequency (RF) technology. It safely heats the deep, collagen rich layers of your skin. The heat helps tighten existing collagen and stimulate the formation of new collagen over time, which reduces sagging, renews contours, and improves the smoothness and texture of the skin’s surface.

Thermage treatments average about 45 minutes for the face and up to an hour and a half for other parts of the body, depending on the size, location and condition of the area to be treated. Mine took about 75 minutes(less than 1.5 hours) and that was because we were filming it! If we weren’t filming it, it could’ve been shorter. But then again, the therapist works according to your comfort level and pace, so if you’re uncomfy, can always ask for the intensity to be lowered or pace to be slower!

Thermage procedures can effectively and safely treat skin on most body parts, including the face, eyes, lips, tummy, arms, hands, thighs and buttocks. I NEED it all over! (Solta and IDS, are you reading this? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Hahaha)

What kind of results can you expect? Your skin can look smoother and more youthful as the tighter underlying collagen offers better support. Depending on what you have treated:

• Your eyes can look brighter with reduced hooding.

• Elsewhere on the body, wrinkled, crepey or sagging skin can appear smoother; bulging skin can be tighter and firmer.

• You can also see improvement in your cellulite. Your skin will be smoother with reduced dimpling.

Results vary depending on age and skin condition.

Some immediate results are usually visible and improve over time in the course of your body’s natural collagen rebuilding process.

For most patients, measurable tightening and contouring gradually appear in the two to six months following a single treatment session. Results can last years depending on your skin condition and aging process. Mine were visible right after and a month after the treatment was when people started to compliment me when they noticed the changes, but more on that later!

How many treatments will you need? Unlike many laser procedures requiring four or more sessions, Thermage treatment delivers results in a single treatment for most patients. The doctor will determine the course of treatment that is right for you, based on your needs and goals. Mine was only one single session and I hope the results last me for up to 2 years!

The great thing about Thermage is that there’s no special care needed after treatment and most patients return to their regular activities immediately following treatment. I put my makeup on immediately after and went out. Apart from some of the leftover contact gel that I got on the baby hair at my temples(cos I never clean properly haha), no one could tell I did anything. ZERO redness or swelling, just a gentle glow on my face(like after a very good facial)!

PAIN FACTOR. This part you gotta read… Each time the treatment device touches your skin, you’ll feel a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another cooling  sensation. The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for tightening, while the cooling sensation protects the surface of your skin. Throughout the procedure, the therapist will ask for feedback on the level of  heat sensation to help balance your comfort with maximum results.

If I say Thermage doesn’t hurt, I’d be lying. But with the new Thermage Total Tip, Thermage is no longer so painful like the past generation types, where the pain level is high enough to induce cold sweating. The new tip uses a vibration technique to distract you from the heat, coupled with the cooling air, most parts of the face were very bearable for me! Also, with the aid of numbing cream, some parts I barely felt anything. Some more sensitive areas did hurt a bit though(like it felt a bit too hot for my liking), so when that happened I told Doctor B(who was my physician) to lower the intensity till I was comfortable, then increase it for the other parts after.

She asked me throughout the procedure if I was fine and if she could continue. Very very sweet and gentle. I was a bit cold and jittery cos I didn’t have time to eat at all before my treatment so I shivered at some parts(cos I was feeling cold), and Dr B thought I was reacting to the pain and she sayanged me! Hahaha. She put her hand on my shoulder whenever she felt I was uncomfortable. I wanted to tell her I have several tatts and I’ve suffered pain much much worse than this, but still it was super comforting and sweet of her to be so considerate! If you do this, I STRONGLY recommend Dr B!

I think this post is informative enough but for whatever reason you wish to know more about Thermage, please see www.thermage.com.

And here’s me at IDS Clinic on the 28th of March for my treatment! (Yes I know I have a giant boil on my chin. I blame stress and hormones. So if you’d so kindly just gloss over it and focus on the treament, that’ll be great haha) Please watch the video!

This is me immediately AFTER the treatment!

I bet you can’t tell and you think this is perfectly fine and you’re questioning why I even went for Thermage. But I’ll have you know that my face used to be sharper than this and I just didn’t like the way it was starting to droop la! Post treatment, the “off the table”(meaning immediately post treatment) results were fab! I had a nice glow and my skin looked rejuvenated like I slept 14 hours haha. But of course, Thermage is a treatment that shows results OVER TIME(6 months to be exact), so I thought this rejuvenated glow was probably just temporary or it’s a placebo I imagined…

The sag at my right jawline is a bit more obvious in this pic. It used to be a ruler straight line! If I didn’t do Thermage, I’m sure it would have deteriorated in no time. Please don’t tell me it’s fine and I should accept aging gracefully. It’s my life and my face and I don’t wanna age so fast! *stomps feet*

Besides, what Thermage does is to boost the collagen production(I personally feel it’s more like a slap to tell the sleepy collagen factory to wake the eff up and stop being so lazy haha) and EVEN IF it can’t improve the sag at the contours of my face, at least I can have more plumped up youthful skin right?

So here marks the start of my exciting journey with Thermage. The treatment is done and I can now rock ‘n’ roll and wait for the results! (And by rock ‘n’ roll, I mean be completely sedentary and play mj occasionally.)

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU AND WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE? Ok, I mean if you don’t follow me there, here are some pics to chart my skin’s progress… But you should follow me @yankaykay anyway cos you love me.

I look at myself in the mirror everyday so I didn’t notice the difference at first. But just LOOK AT THESE PICS. (Pics are in chronological order.)

I don’t photoshop my pics as in edit my features or make my face/body skinnier, only filter. My jawline is so defined now!

EFFORTLESS. No need to angle until #facecramp #neckcramp #wholebodycramp anymore!

And my skin is much more lifted in general. I told Dr B to go near my brow bone when she did the treatment cos I read that if you lift the skin around your eyes, your double eyelids will look higher WITHOUT ANY SURGERY. I didn’t think it would actually work but it did! Cos the skin around the eye is exceptionally thin and tends to sag with age, making you look tired even when you’ve slept enough. My double eyelids ARE higher wtf. Who knew Thermage could achieve this?

(Disclaimer: This would only work for you if you already have double eyelids that are hooded because the skin on your eyelids has sagged with age. If you have single eyelids, please don’t be retarded and think a radio-frequency treatment can miraculously give you double eyelids. -_-)

AND THIS IS MY FACE AFTER 7 WEEKS (taken 20th May 2014, so under 2 months). RAW PIC, ZERO EDITING/FILTER.

See my Before/After(2 months) comparison!

Madness or magic? You decide. I think it’s both. :)

And if that’s not enough, see how Thermage has helped these people WITHOUT GOING UNDER THE KNIFE AND WITH ZERO DOWNTIME. These ladies had more visible signs of aging on their faces, so their results are even more apparent!

See how her eyes look more lifted, like she’s a lot more well-rested and rejuvenated? Eye creams can’t achieve this effect, neither can tons of sleep. It’s just aging. BO PIAN. Thermage can reverse that for you.

And check out this lady… She totally had the problem I had, just that mine wasn’t so severe. Her jowls and her double chin were so bad(sorry random lady! I’m speaking from a totally objective and clinical pov, don’t be offended if you see this!).

Thermage has literally REVERSED aging for her! Almost looks like the right pics are 10 years BEFORE and the ones on the left are 10 years later haha. If I didn’t do Thermage, I would potentially end up looking like the before pics. #ohlordhelpme #NOOOOO

My own friends have been telling me I look so much fresher and well-rested and they couldn’t pin-point the exact difference! Imo, that’s the best compliment you can get for a physical enhancement procedure. Nobody wants to be too obvious.

One of my gfs has already made an appointment for Thermage just cos she’s seen the results on my face. I hadn’t written this post or talked much about Thermage to anyone cos I really didn’t notice the results. She knows I was sponsored and am due to do a review, but she did her research and went ahead to make an appointment as a paying customer. I’m truly amazed cos she’s not usually the kind to splurge on these things. And I didn’t even try to convince her that it’s good!

Lots of clinics offer Thermage now and the price ranges around $4500 for a full face treatment. The most expensive I’ve personally seen is $5000 and the cheapest is $4000. Also, some clinics use the 600-reps(meaning number of shots) tip for a full face treatment.

I have no idea what IDS is doing and I got zero dollars to share this post but I’m supposed to tell you they’re now charging $3200 for full face Thermage, using the 900-reps tip! This means AT LEAST a 20-36% discount with 50% EXTRA shots of Thermage (IKR, my math is awesome haha)!

Before I did Thermage, I’d honestly say I think it’s a pricey treatment for results less pronounced than a facelift. I was skeptical, like how much difference can it possibly make to be worth 4.5 grand?? I swear I thought, if I’m not sponsored, there’s no way I’d pay even 3.2k(after IDS’ huge discount) of my own money for this. I mean, might as well pay more and shave jaw or something more worth my money right?

Also, my skin is not thaaat droopy and I’m still considered young for a Thermage patient, so why would I spend this amount on this?

But having seen the results over almost 2 months on my own face and my gfs’ responses to them, I am a true Thermage convert. No plastic surgery, whether implant or shaving bone, can achieve this natural enhancement. Expensive creams can tighten and firm up skin but they cannot define my jawline and lift my entire face the way Thermage can.

My face shape has changed, my skin is now much more taut, and I look so refreshed everyday. Plus higher double eyelids! And the crazy part is that results are supposed to be seen over 6 months so idk how much more it can actually still improve! I’m already super happy with the results as of now.

Now, I don’t wanna overpromise you all cos everyone’s skin is different and also not everyone is suitable for Thermage(especially if you’re very young and/or don’t have droopy skin issues. The doctor will deem if you’re a fit candidate for Thermage. Dr SK Tan is very realistic. If you don’t need it, he will tell you exactly so and he won’t wanna earn a cent from you unless he’s sure you will get bang for your buck). But what I’m saying is, based on my own results, IF I had to pay for Thermage myself, $3200 is an amount I would gladly fork out.

Thank you, Solta Medical for the sponsored treatment, and IDS Clinic for performing the treatment.
